Learn all about Leap Day!
Do you know any Leap Babies?

POSTED BY BEVERLEE, Thursday, February 21, 2008

Trust the New York Times to trot out an as yet unsubstantiated smear campaign against Republican front runner, Presidential hopeful John McCain!  Big surprise!

However, let’s consult the stars to see Why now,? Why McCain?  First of all, as I’ve mentioned previously McCain’s Virgo Sun has recently been and will continue to be transited by Saturn, the task master of the zodiac. If he’s as clean as a hound’s tooth, Saturn will disclose it. If he’s not, Saturn will not only disclose it, but will punish him. That’s just the way the stars shine, honey, and don’t ever forget it. You can’t get away with a thing if Saturn’s on your case. On the other hand, if you have not done the dirty deed, Saturn will stand in your corner and defend you.

Let’s see what else is going on with McCain’s chart: Incidentally, I’m using a new birth time of 8:37 am which seems to describe him most accurately, in my opinion. The hardest part of being a predictive astrologer is obtaining accurate birth times, and I’ve been fooled in the past. Nevertheless, let’s continue with this birth time as a working hypothesis and see where it leads us.

We’ll begin with the Moon which today, is coming to a conjunction with McCain’s natal 12th house Neptune. Hmm, what is secret and hidden brought to light? On a more positive note, the Moon trines his natal 7th house Uranus.  Meanwhile, Pluto, the Transformer, is squaring his Natal Mercury and Progressed Moon, challenging his communication and emotions. Jupiter squares his Libra Ascendant. Challenging. Uranus conjoins his sixth house Saturn. Uranus always brings surprises and breakthroughs--in this case in his house of service to others. Transiting Mars is squaring McCain’s natal Venus and Progressed Mars. More Challenges.

Saturn, I believe, describes one’s integrity. Since Uranus the Awakener is interacting with McCain’s native integrity, we will, most assuredly, ultimately learn the truth of this surprising attack by the New York Times.

I have already mentioned that the next Solar Eclipse, coming in August, occurs close to John McCain’s Virgo Sun. Using the 8:37 am chart, this Eclipse will fall in his 11th house of goals, friends, groups and the unexpected. We must await the turning point there that the Eclipse is bound to cause.

In closing, I would like to refer you to a review of a book written by “Bud” Day, a fellow POW of McCain’s. It points very directly to McCain’s character and integrity. Here is a quote about John McCain which is pertinent  (and in contrast) to the issues being brought forward by the New York Times today:

“In December 1967, a prisoner was dumped in Day's cell on the outskirts of Hanoi, known as the Plantation. This prisoner's legs were atrophied and he weighed under 100 pounds. Day helped scrub his face and nurse him back from the brink of death. The fellow American was Navy Lieutenant Commander John Sidney McCain III of the Panama Canal Zone. As his health improved, McCain's rants against his captors were sometimes as ferocious as Day's. The North Vietnamese tried and failed, through torture, to get McCain to accept a release for their own propaganda purposes: The lieutenant commander was the son of Admiral John McCain Jr., the commander of all American forces in the Pacific. "Character," writes the younger McCain, quoting the 19th century evangelist Dwight Moody, "is what you are in the dark," when nobody's looking and you silently make decisions about how you will act the next day.

In early 1973, during a visit to Hanoi, North Vietnamese officials told Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that they would be willing to free McCain into his custody. Kissinger refused, aware that there were prisoners held longer than McCain, ahead of him in the line for release. McCain suffered awhile longer in confinement, then, once freed, thanked Kissinger for "preserving my honor." The two have been good friends since. McCain blurbs with gusto Bud Day's memoir. The senator writes: "I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the dimensions of human greatness”.

Since the early days of astrology, Solar Eclipses have been deemed the so-called
"Toppler of Kings". Indeed, Fidel Castro’s resignation as Cuba's President propels the age-old adage into the twenty-first century. Castro, a “royal” Leo, has just experienced the recent Solar Eclipse in opposition to his natal Sun. Tomorrow’s Lunar Eclipse at 1 degree of Virgo falls in his 9th house of government and the masses.

Of even greater interest to me is the fact that Castro’s chart and Hillary Clinton’s are, in once sense, almost identical, with 29 degrees of Sagittatius rising. This means they both are experiencing the challenge of Pluto conjoining their 7th house of the public; Pluto also squares Clinton’s 10th house Moon and Castro’s 10th house Uranus. Tomorrow’s Lunar Eclipse comes very close to conjoining Clinton’s Midheaven—Destiny—with  transiting Saturn exactly opposing that point. Will this knock Clinton out of the Presidential race? Probably not completely. But it does not seem to bode particularly well for her winning today’s primaries.

I have been reading a superb biography of the legendary dancer/choreographer Martha Graham, “Martha:The Life and Works of Martha Graham”  written by her friend dancer/choreographer Agnes deMille.

I have been captivated by the determination, resolution and  persistence of Martha Graham, a Taurus, born on May 11, 1894. I was at first amused, reading of her resoluteness because my little granddaughter Erin, who shares Graham’s May 11th birthday, also loves dancing and from birth has been determined and persistent—as only a true Taurus can be! Way before I was introduced to this biography of Martha Graham, I have often said of Erin, “Someday she’s going to be a dancer!”  Time will tell.

However, what I want to share with you today about Martha Graham is something she told Agnes deMille, which vibrates, like deja vu through the core of my being. I truly believe that  anyone who has ever created something artistic with the intention of presenting it to the world—his or her “baby” if you will, has experienced the feelings of self-doubt that deMille describes and that Graham attempts to relieve in her extraordinary response. DeMille describes their conversation which follows:

‘The greatest thing she ever said to me was in 1943 after the opening of Oklahoma!, when I suddenly had unexpected, flamboyant success for a work I thought was only fairly good, after years of neglect for work I thought was fine. I was bewildered and worried that my entire set of values was untrustworthy. I talked to Martha. I remember the conversation well. It was in a Schrafft's restaurant over a soda. I confessed that I had a burning desire to be excellent but no faith that I could be.

Martha said to me, very quietly, "There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. As for you, Agnes, you have a peculiar and unusual gift, and you have so far used about one-third of your talent.".

"But," I said, "when I see my work I take for granted what other people value in it. I see only its ineptitude, inorganic flaws, and crudities. I am not pleased or satisfied."
"No artist is pleased."
"But then there is no satisfaction?"
“No satisfaction whatever at any time," she cried out passionately. “There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others." ‘

What fascinates me about Graham’s response is that it unwittingly describes what I firmly believe our astrological birthchart delineates: Our birthchart suggests what we are capable of achieving in this lifetime without assuring us that we will do it. The birthchart is a picture of the agreement we made before our incarnation about what we would accomplish here; the contribution we would make to the world.

How often I have had clients whose birthcharts, and stimulus by transits, secondary progressions, solar arc directions, solar returns—you name it—any indication of what one could do at a particular time, if one were willing to do it, and he or she simply was not willing to rise to the opportunity.

This is why I was so thrilled to read the life story of a woman with the visualization to live out her dream. Martha Graham was dancing into her nineties—undeterred by crippling arthritis or the opinion of friends or critics. She was throughout her lifetime IN THE DANCE!
There is a lesson there for all of us. Brava Martha!

I’ve just read an article that effectively describes what I have often observed about the Eclipse Cycle and have been meaning to relate to you: The energy around any Eclipse—both the (New Moon) Solar Eclipse and the (Full Moon) Lunar Eclipse, is unstable, unforeseen, and often chaotic.  In other words, an Eclipse’s energy and effects  are precisely what we have all witnessed in the news over this past week.

Eclipses always generate unsettled energy and we are each called upon to deal with their effects on a personal level as well as on a broader level—both in our private lives as individuals and as citizens of the culture to which we belong. There is no escaping the effects of an Eclipse—privately or publicly.

Each of the Eclipses affects us as individuals very personally, based on where it falls in our birthchart. In the aftermath of the most recent Solar Eclipse of February 6th, I am seeing this astrological maxim entirely verified in the birthcharts and lives of those who I am privileged to know personally and professionally.  With each successive Eclipse every one of us arrives at a crisis point and we must make meaningful decisions based on where the crisis strikes us. Depending upon whether or not the Solar or Lunar Eclipse touches a sensitive point in our birthchart, it affects us either subtlety or dramtically.

So, if you have recently been feeling somewhat awed, confused, or even shattered  by current events—either in the news or in your personal lives, please understand that your feelings have a direct correlation to the recent Solar Eclipse.  It might help you to write down your feelings about what is demanding your attention, either on a personal or public level, or to discuss your experience with others, in order to come to a more meaningful understanding of what is occuring in your life at this time.

You may feel in need of consolation if you are experiencing stress at this time. Perhaps this page or this one may be of comfort to you, offering you peace in the face of uncertainty.

Mercury Retrograde has a bad reputation amongst the cognoscenti. I have assuredly been among those astrologers who cast aspersions on this particular astrological phenomenon over the years. Nonetheless, it’s time for me to step up to the plate and say something good about Mercury’s apparent backward motion going on even as I speak.

We’ve heard ad nauseum that during these three times every year when Mercury is backing up, it’s time for us to also back up in our thinking processes and reconsider some part of our life’s experience with the intention (one hopes!) of improving our outlook. Well, during this Mercury retrograde period I’ve done that to great advantage and so I want to tell you about it.

First, I found myself wanting to print out an astrology report that I wrote prior to those I now offer in Windows format which can be sent by email. The old reports that I had before were in DOS format and cannot be emailed, but I have kept these reports on an old laptop so that I can print them out if I choose to, from time to time. For instance, I recently decided to print out the Birthchart Analysis of my granddaughter Erin, who is approaching the age of three.

I did this successfully, and was pleased with the results of what I’d had to say about this little girl, by virtue of having written the report many years before she was born.

This gave me another idea. I would print out my current Transit Report, which I had also written many years ago.  When I tried to access the program on my old laptop, however, chaos ensued. I couldn’t get the Blue Star program to open! I was aghast! My wonderful insights…my “take” on astrological transits gone? It couldn’t be! I wouldn’t let that happen! But the more I tried to “fix” things, the more muddled and recalcitrant they became. They were lost! Two dear friends tried to console me: “Beverlee, it’s time to let go of the past,” they assured me, and in my heart I knew they were right.

But I have Taurus rising (read determination) and at heart I am a writer. I couldn’t simply resign myself to letting go of all those hours of work that I had done rewriting those original reports in the Blue Star program.  So after a period of resignation, I tried once again to resurrect them. And again. And again. (With retrograde Mercury smirking in the background all the while).

Then, one day, for no apparent or logical reason that I have been able to discover, the Blue Star program opened up and I was able to print out my yearly transits which I had spent hours years go writing in my own words. I could scarcely believe my good fortune! My diligent Taurus Rising had prevailed!

So then I printed out another Blue Star Transit Report, which I had not personally rewritten, but which I wanted to compare with my revised version.  I’m now consulting and comparing both of them on a daily basis and enjoying it so much!

And I owe it all to Mercury backing up and inviting me to back up along with it.

Then, one day, again suddenly, and out of the blue, I decided to create my annual Moon Phase Booklet, detailing the Eight Phases of the annual Lunar Cycle, which I had formerly used faithfully, journaling my experiences along with each of the Moon’s phases.

Oddly, after years of enjoying this experience, I had abandoned the practice when my grandson Ian was born in 2001. I was mystified about why I had allowed this lapse to happen, until last evening my dear friend Rosalind explained that with Ian’s birth, I had simply set new priorities about how I needed (wanted) to spend my time. I had immersed myself in the joyous role of grandmother, and turned to simpler ways of tuning into the “dance of the spheres” by using other less time-consuming astrological tools—such as the astrological calendar and my New Moon Meditations E-Book which I had also written.

With the commencement of Mercury Retrograde, however, I suddenly wanted to return to the earlier technique and attune myself more intimately to the Moon’s Eight Phases. I’m glad I did! I’m enjoying the process so much. I just feel more “connected” to the Universe! And I trust that those who have purchased their own personalized Moon Phase E-Book from me are enjoying the process as much as I am.

So you see, there is something good to be said about Mercury Retrograde, after all. Now, if Retrograde Mercury could only persuade me to go back to exercising regularly, I would greatly appreciate it!

I was amused last evening as I watched Bill O’Reilly’s program on Fox News, to hear him and Laura Ingraham speculating about whether John McCain will choose Mitt Romney as his running mate in the upcoming election. Bill thinks yes, Laura thinks no.

While I no longer hold that hope in view of all that has occurred in the interim, what amused me was that I had indulged in the same speculation in my previous post about the two Republican presidential hopefuls.

Still, as the old adage goes: Politics makes strange bedfellows.

POSTED BY BEVERLEE, Thursday, February 07, 2008

If you have ever doubted the accuracy of a Solar Eclipse’s effects please take note of the fact that yesterday’s Eclipse fell in the Tenth House of Governor Mitt Romney’s birthchart. The Tenth house represents one’s direction in life—in his case, his intended direction was toward the White House.  But Eclipses create a crisis—a turning point—in the house of our chart where they fall.

I can’t imagine any more precise or eloquent testimony to the accuracy of the effects of a Solar Eclipse than Mitt Romney abandoning his run for the Presidency the day after this Eclipse. Moreover, Mercury, the ruler of the Eclipse, is also retrograding through Romney’s Tenth House and thus perfectly illustrates the oft quoted astrological law: “Where Mercury retrogrades in your chart, you must go back and rethink your intention with regard to that part of your life.”

Although I have not discussed it here, in my study of the charts of the front runners in this year’s Presidental Election, I have been relying on the tool that allowed me to forecast the election of George W. Bush to the Presidency in 2000 and 2004: namely the Geodetic chart of the United States. The rule is that the candidate whose planets most closely align with the cusps of the houses in the United States’ Geodetic chart, wins the election. Since Romney’s chart most closely fit this rule, I privately believed that he was going to become the Republican Nominee, and, that he would become the next President. Obviously that’s not going to happen.

This time.

However, Mitt Romney is only sixty years old. I am willing to bet that he will make another run for the Presidency, and I am willing to bet that he will one day become President of the Uniterd States.

It’s thrilling for me to observe how perfectly astrological cycles work in our daily lives even without our ever being aware of them.  In particlar, I’m thinking about the twenty or so states that hold Presidential Primaries in the month of February, and then nine months later, in November, our nation holds the General Election. You see, it’s a gestation period—just like the gestation period a mother undergoes before giving birth to her baby.

And, as I remind my clients when I do their Solar Return Analysis every year, the four most important parts of our personal Solar Year are:

As you may infer from the foregoing, at the outset of any undertaking—such as February being the time when we hold the Presidential Primaries—the candidates are launching themselves on a mission. It will be enlightening for us to observe what occurs at the first square to this endeavor—in May.  Are the candidates on the right track, or will they need to adjust and alter their positions?  And then, very near the time of the opposition of the Sun to the time of the Primaries—in late summer—each party holds its  party's Convention.  This year, the Republicans will convene in Minneapolis-St. Paul on September 1st – 4th. The Democrats will hold their convention in Denver on August 25th – 28th.  And finally, on the last square of the transiting Sun to the Primaries, the culmination of the Cycle—nine months after the Primaries—the general Election on the first Tuesday in November, decides  which party's leader will achieve success and which will not.

I cannot help wondering whether our Founding Fathers understood the significance of the heavenly cycle they were mirroring when they established the rules for our Presidential election process.  Did they understand the stars—either overtly or innately? That would be an interesting study to pursue. For my part, I must confess that I feel that they did, indeed, understand the stellar cycles' effects upon us here on Earth.

My personal feelings notwithstanding, in this election year the Eclipse Cycle, as it happens, falls right in line with the Election Cycle, with the Primaries occurring in the shadow of the Solar Eclipse of February 6th, and the Eclipse of August 1st,coming more or less right before the conventions.  (Actually, as I've already mentioned repeatedly, a Solar Eclipse's energy manifests a month prior to the actual time of the Eclipse).

I’ve previously mentioned the February 6th Eclipse falling in Presidential hopeful Mitt
Romney’s 10th house of public image, reputation and destiny. It certainly does seem to have caused a crisis in this part of his chart, although, to be frank, it was not exactly the turning point I had anticipated.

I have a confession to make:  A number of years ago—during a Presidential election—a client asked me to predict who I thought was going to win the Presidency. Because I had the wrong chart for one of the nominees, I predicted the wrong man would win. As a result, I was embarrassed and feared that my friend would understandably be disenchanted with my astrological prowess. What she said (for which I was then, and remain to this day, extremely grateful) was this: "Well,  Beverlee, I'm sure you've learned a lot from this election."

Bless her heart, that darling woman was absolutely right, of course!  In astrology—as in any pursuit—we learn the most from our mistakes.  So, I am bound to say that it will be extremely enlightening to me, as an ever-evolving astrologer, to observe how this particular Solar Eclipse plays out for Governor Romney during the rest of the campaign—with it having fallen in his 10th house of destiny.

FYI: The August 1st Solar Eclipse at 9 degrees of Leo will trigger the 10th house of another presidential hopeful—that of John McCain.  Remember this, my friends:  It ain’t over until it’s over!

As you know, each of the houses in your birthchart represents a compartment of your life, and the house in which the Eclipse falls is where you inevitably experience a crisis, or turning point, which occupies your time and attention for the following six months until the next Solar Eclipse.

The late astrologer Robert Carl Jansky, in his book “Interpreting the Eclipses”, claimed that he was able to detect the current core issue in a client’s life merely by knowing in which part of his or her birthchart the most recent Eclipse fell!  From my experience with family, friends and clients, I can testify to his claim. Eclipses trigger potent changes of direction in all of our lives.

The planet closest  to the February 6th Eclipse point is Mercury, which promotes it to the rulership of the Eclipse. As it happens, Mercury will be retrograding through the sign of Aquarius at the time of the Eclipse, so it, too, is affecting each of you personally in one of the houses of your birthchart, as it invites you to go back and rethink your position about the issues related to that compartment of your life.

To learn how this Eclipse will affect you personally, I am pleased to continue my offer to write a personal Eclipse Reading detailing the effects of the February 6th Solar Eclipse on your birthchart for only $14.95. Included in your personal Eclipse Reading, you will receive my analysis of the current transits to your natal chart, as well as the Secondary Progression’s and the Solar Arc Direction’s influence.
