How much do you know about Halloween?  Here's an excellent
source of Halloween lore.

With the FBI’s announcement that the body discovered in an abandoned SUV is that of Jennifer Hudson’s 7-year old nephew Julian, my sorrow deepens, my heart aches, and my prayers for comfort and condolence for Jennifer and her family during this tragic moment in their lives continue non-stop.

POSTED BY BEVERLEE, Sunday, October 26, 2008

The November issue of Guideposts magazine has award winning actress/singer Jennifer Hudson’s picture on the cover and features her charming story of how her grandmother’s influence led her to become a singer. It is an upbeat, happy narrative of her early life and her joyful success as an award winning actress.

So I was naturally saddened to read of her mother and brother’s murder and the kidnapping of her seven-year-old nephew.  Before I found her birth data I thought Jennifer might be a Leo, but she is a Virgo, born on September 12th, 1981 Her Sun is a singleton—the only point in the sign of  Virgo, but with a stellium—five planets in the sign of Libra. I examined her Solar chart (time of birth unknown) to see how the most recent Solar Eclipse in Leo had affected her.

The Eclipse at 9 degrees of Leo fell in her Solar Ninth House, on her Natal Mars, and transiting Mars fell on her Sun with transiting Saturn conjoining her Midheaven and retrograding Uranus opposing her Sun. These are all heavy, troubling indications.

The transits to Jennifer’s chart on the day of her family’s tragedy—October 24th, however, were even more difficult. Uranus had retrograded back to nineteen degrees of Pisces to form an exact opposition to her Virgo Sun and Saturn had advanced to within a degree of conjuncting her Sun. Transiting Mercury was exactly on her natal Mercuy, and the Moon was poised on her Midheaven.  The Sun had just passed over Jennifer’s Venus/Pluto conjunction.  A Venus/Pluto conjunction in a natal chart often depicts tragic losses of loved ones throughout one’s life.

Jennifer Hudson is a deeply spiritual young woman whom I know is praying for the safe return of her nephew. Let us all join with her in that fervent prayer.

Today the Sun moves into Scorpio.  Discover what the Scorpio Cycle of Renewal offers you.  This cycle is an especially poignant one for me, since I lost my mother two days ago. As I read the words describing this part of the annual solar cycle—the Cycle of Renewal, however, I couldn’t help feeling that I am right on track—in alignment with it. Although my mother had been in failing health for several months, and her transition was expected, what I am discovering is that while I was prepared, intellectually, for her loss, emotionally one can never be fully prepared for the loss of one’s mother. I trust I may be forgiven for attempting to observe her passing through the eyes of an astrologer.  When Hospice informed us that Ferne had a short time to live, I thought she might depart when the Moon passed over her natal Saturn in Gemini, for as it often does with me, that conjunction usually provoked a negative response from Ferne. However, she didn’t go then.  My next guess was that her death would occur when the Moon passed over my natal Pluto—the ruler of her Scorpio Sun. And that is precisely what occurred. The Moon also, at the time of Ferne’s death, conjoined her natal Neptune (surrender) and exactly trined her North Node (Karma).  Here is my loving tribute to my mother.

I was delighted to receive a birthday card today from a dear friend with this little message tucked inside:

“Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes
for love, joy and celebration.  The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds
us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection
has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation.”

It was a serendipitous confirmation of what I had written below.

Perhaps I am only whistling past the graveyard here.   Nevertheless, I am going to share an interesting idea with you.  I believe tomorrow the stock market will begin to reverse its downward trend of the past ten days. I base my postulate on information gleaned from Muriel Bruce Hasbrouck’s book “TAROT AND ASTROLOGY: The Pursuit of Destiny”, in which she explains the theory of the Ten-Day Cycle Formula.

Mrs. Hasbrouck did not invent the Ten-Day Cycle Formula; she claims to have discovered it quite by accident in “BOOK T”—a text deeply embedded in the writings of the “Order of the Golden Dawn”—a secret occult society of the early 20th century, whose tenets date back to the Dark Ages, when the Tarot was created, intended to be a secret codex for preserving astrological principles.

In “BOOK T”, each of the “spot cards” (those numbered between 2 and 10) in the four suits of the Tarot deck, is assigned to one of the 36 astrological decans (10-day periods). “BOOK T” delineates the psychological characteristics of each of the 36 decans as they relate to those born within each decan, and I assure you, from my exhaustive and ongoing study of this ancient theory, I have found it to be an incredibly accurate description of personalies.  I shall have more to tell you about this phenomenal theory in a future blog with regard to who almost certainly is destined to become the next President of the United States of America. Stay tuned!

However, as we return to how the Ten-Day Cycle Formula relates to the stock market, we must move from the individual psychology of each of the thirty-six astrological decans to the mass psychology of each Ten-Day Cycle. What follows, very briefly, is how Mrs. Hasbrouck describes her study of stock market trends:

“…It was found that a very large percentage of trend changes take place on a turn from one ten-day cycle to another; during a specially charted period of six years, three out of four [stock market] trend changes occurred within twenty-four hours of a cycle turn.”

Now, looking back at the past ten days, during which we have—with bated breath, and sinking hearts—observed the stock market plunge ever downward, we discover that we were in the decan “THREE OF LIBRA” encompassing the period of October 3 to 12.

According to Mrs. Hasbrouck’s intensive study of “BOOK T”, we learn that the “Frequency” of this Ten-Day Cycle is attributed to SATURN (Intensity).  The “Potential” of the cycle is THREE (Determination), and the “Basic Quality” of the cycle is AIR (Mentality).

I will now quote very briefly from Mrs. Hasbrouck’s description of the negative (or pessimistic) qualities of this Ten-Day Cycle (and by extension, the pessimistic mood of mass psychology during said cycle):

“…fanatics…their intensity of purpose can follow a destructive course…impervious to outside opinion, deaf to suggestion or criticism.”

That certainly seems to resonate with the mood of mass psychology over the past ten days. Now let’s examine Mrs. Hasbrouck’s description of the Ten-Day Cycle that begins tomorrow (October 13 to 22): FOUR OF LIBRA. “Frequency”: JUPITER (Stability); “Potential”: FOUR (Stability); “Basic Quality”: AIR (Mentality).

Briefly, Mrs. Hasbrouck says about individuals born during this Ten-Day Cycle (and by extension, mass psychology during the cycle):

“An intelligently optimistic viewpoint is the mental safeguard of Libra FOURS…better able than most, they are able to see all sides of a question, and they can choose, if they will, the sunny side rather than the gloomy one. Logic, for them, is a much more successful weapon than emotion…”

Perhaps because I happen to have been born during the LIBRA FOUR cycle, I am optimistically pinning my hopes on a reversal tomorrow of the dreary stock market trend that we have witnessed over the past ten days during the LIBRA THREE cycle. Granted, the theory works only 75% of the time and anything can happen during the next Ten-Day-Cycle; nevertherless, we can pray that the mood of mass psychology will, at the very least, begin to shift from pessimism to optimism tomorrow.

It’s been quite a week, hasn’t it?  Watching helplessly from the sidelines as our  nation’s financial future spiraled apparently out of control was nothing short of mind-boggling. Bombarded all week by the ubiquitous angry, screaming, blaming, television “Talking Heads” and dire newspaper headlines was bad enough. But in addition, I have been saddened by the loss of one of our cats during this Mercury retrograde period, while witnessing the deteriorating condition of my elderly mother, and at the same time being slightly annoyed with my adult children. It was enough to depress anyone.

Or so I thought.

This afternoon, however, I turned to my phenomenal Osho Tarot for guidance if not comfort. To my astonishment—given my mood—I drew the 3 of Water: Celebration card (3 of cups in other decks). Huh? How can this card be reflecting my subconscious? I wondered.  Well, I theorized, I had just sent my niece Nancy a Birthday Meditation, and I am looking forward to celebrating my own birthday next week. That must be why I drew this card, I reasoned.

But then I read what the accompanying book “Tarot in the spirit of ZEN: The Game of Life” has to say, in part, about the 3 of Water: Celebration card:

“…..If you can live in wonder you will be capable of celebration.
Don’t live in knowledge; live in wonder. You don’t know anything.
Life is surprising; everywhere it is a continuous surprise.  Live it as a surprise,
an unpredictable phenomenon; every moment is new. Just try.  Give it a try!
You will not lose anything if you give it a try, and you may gain everything.”

I meditated on that message for a moment or two, letting it sink in. And then I remembered how beautifully and brightly the stars had shone for my wondering gaze when I awakened this morning; of how glad we are to enjoy the presence of the hummingbirds who are still coming to our feeder so late in the season; of how happy we are that our seven-year-old grandson Ian’s front teeth are finally beginning to come in again; of how surprised and pleased we are that our three-year-old granddaughter Erin can write her name!  And how delighted we were moments before to receive glorious pictures of Autumn in Vermont—my favorite season—from our niece Nancy.

Yes, Osho, You are right. It is best to live in wonder. Life is, indeed, a surprise. Every moment is brand new with promise. When we view and live life this way, we gain everything.  Thank you for reminding me!

I had an interesting email from a friend after yesterday’s post about the Simpson guilty verdict.  She said:  "I'm going on record to say that during this Mercury retrograde, I believe the jury wanted to BE a piece of history; they stayed through the night to force a verdict, and they did it during a mercury retrograde.

My prediction is that the Grand Trine will kick in during an appeal and this Mercury Retro decision will be reversed. (Has nothing to do with thinking he is guilty or innocent - just going by the stars.)"

To which I replied, rather pedantically:

As always, it's good to hear from you, because you keep me on my toes.

You propose an interesting theory with regard to this decision having come during Mercury rx; however, my frank opinion about this decision is that Mercury rx finally got O. J. Simpson the desserts he actually deserved back in 1995, which is why this reversal of fortune coming on the exact anniversary of that earlier decision seems so poetically apropos. The important thing to remember is that, in astrology, we cannot make positive or accurate predictions based solely on one astrological principle. It usually requires, at a minimum, three indications to support an opinion.

So, looking ahead to the next Solar Eclipse in January, we find both favorable and unfavorable aspects to his chart. (which always makes astrological predictions challenging). The Eclipse point at 6 degrees of Aquarius EXACTLY trines his Tenth House Mars. (Sounds good). But simultaneously, Mercury, accompanying this Eclipse and retrograding at 24 degrees of Capricorn, EXACTLY opposes his natal Mercury (rx) in Cancer.

This could possibly indicate a reversal of the conviction during the 6-month influence of the Eclipse. But we need to also observe that a very slow-moving Pluto will still be opposing his natal Venus at that time (an extremely negative indication). Saturn will still be slowly transiting his First House at that time (usually a difficult time in and of itself in anyone's life), and will, even more threateningly, also be opposing his natal Moon while squaring his Tenth House Uranus. As a safety net, I must admit that transiting Neptune EXACTLY trines that Tenth House Uranus, lending a degree of protection. But I consider it a nebulous hope at best.

However, his Secondary Progressed chart at the time of the next Solar Eclipse will be in its Fourth Quarter Phase (do or die time). The progressed Moon will be at 25 degrees of Gemini, EXACTLY squaring his natal Moon in Pisces. The progressed Moon affords astrologers a great deal of information, and this progressed Moon is not favorable to O. J. Simpson, inasmuch as it also conjoins his Tenth House Uranus—a placement notorious for predicting a fall from grace.

In addition, his progressed Mars EXACTLY conjoins (attacks) his natal Sun at that time in his Eleventh House of results, better known as the house of hopes and wishes.

Therefore, with all due respect, these Eclipse indications seem, in my considered opinion, to result in a forthcoming result entirely different from yours. That said, we have no idea when the appeal process will begin, much less how long it will take, do we?

Although I accurately predicted the outcome of Simpson's latest trial on September 15th, I nevertheless find it incredibly ironic that the guilty verdict should have come exactly thirteen years to the day that he was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.  The stars don't lie, but sometimes they astound us!

POSTED BY BEVERLEE, Friday, October 03, 2008

What do the United States and O. J. Simpson have in common? Well, for openers,  both were born in the sign of Cancer. Not only that, but in the chart for the United States and that of  O. J. Simpson Mercury is at exactly the same emotional degree: 24 Cancer, and in both charts Mercury is retrograde—representing having to go back and do things over!

Furthermore, both the United States' and  O. J. Simpson's charts have Venus (values) in the compulsively needy sign of Cancer within one degree of being conjunct and both—the nation and O. J. Simpson—today are facing the consequences of their innate need to have what they can't help wanting.

But why on Earth, you may well be wondering, am I discussing the United States and  O. J. Simpson in the same breath? Well, my dears, obviously because today was an exceptionally important day for both the United States and O. J. Simpson. Congress passed the $700 billion bailout bill, (just as I predicted) and Simpson’s latest court case went to the jury today. Realizing that both are Cancer natives, I thought it might be instructive to compare their respective charts to see why today was so special for both the nation and O. J. Simpson.

In addition, it is astonishing to note that  O. J. Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman exactly thirteen years ago to this day—on October 3rd, 1995.  October 2nd happened to be the birthday of one of Simpson’s lawyers—the late Johnnie Cochran, so I was not at all surprised when Simpson was acquitted so close to that date thirteen years ago. Of course, I had maintained all along that he would be acquitted by virtue of the forgiving Grand Trine in his natal chart.

This time around, however, I’m not at all convinced that he will be so fortunate. For one thing, transiting Mercury retrograding in the sign of Libra is squaring his natal Sun as the jury begins its deliberations; but more ominously, as I have mentioned in a previous blog last month, Pluto is opposing his natal Venus.

Regrettably, these are the exact same aspects currently affecting our nation’s chart, which leads me to suspect that the $700. billion bailout bill passed by Congress today and shortly to be signed into law by President Bush, as I write this, will, in the final analysis, fail to be the great boon to the country’s financial situation that it has been touted to be. I pray that in the long run it will prove to be a successful solution for our nation's frightening financial crisis; but I am by no means—personally or astrologically—in a position to be unequivocally certain of the eventual outcome.

Simpson’s chart has one further interesting—and in my opinion dangerous—aspect by transit today. Right now the Moon in Sagittarius is conjunct his Nodal axis—which represents one’s Karma.  Does this mean that O. J. Simpson will finally get his just desserts?

I suspect so, although admittedly, he has some favorable aspects going for him as well.  With Saturn (discipline, limitation) trining his Midheaven (reputation, destiny) and Uranus (the Great Awakener) trining his Sun (essence, life's direction), I have to admit that it's marginally possible that there could be a surprise acquittal of all charges against him.

But I’m betting on the Neptune aspects in force right now—transiting Neptune squaring his natal Uranus and the Sun having just passed over his natal Neptune, as well as transiting Jupiter opposing his Sun—to bring closure to this sad situation.

However, to return to the nation’s chart: What pleases me most about the whole nerve-wracking process that, collectively we’ve recently experienced, and which culminated today with the passage of the $700 billion bailout bill, was that this outcome was clearly depicted in the Scorpio rising chart for the United States, which makes me feel that I can now trust this particular chart for the United States.

If there’s one thing an astrologer needs, in order to attempt to analyze an entity, issue, or event, with regard to probable results, it is an accurate chart!

POSTED BY BEVERLEE, Wednesday, October 01, 2008

Chiron, the proverbial “wounded healer” of the zodiac, is now at 16 degrees of Aquarius, conjunct the North Node which points to the direction we should be moving towards in our evolution. It is illuminating to observe that Chiron and the North Node are now transiting the Fourth House of the chart for the United States. The Fourth House represents the foundation of an entity (in this case, the nation), and what it takes to make it feel secure.

There are several charts proposed for the United States; however, using the Scorpio rising chart, these transits are sending a clear message that the nation is deeply in need of healing (Chiron) at the present time with regard to its security (Fourth House), as well as the direction it needs to pursue (North Node).  As it happens, Neptune is also slowly transiting this Fourth House of the United States’ chart, and it is moving toward a conjunction with the Moon—representing the public.

As we are all too aware, there is an enormous uncertainty about security issues amongst the public at this time, which is clearly represented by the nebulousness and also—on the high side—the inspiration offered by Neptune. One must always remember, though, not to place one’s hopes too high, for Neptune has a reputation for pulling the rug out from under one’s over-inflated expectations.

Interestingly, at this moment in history, Chiron, the North Node, and Neptune are all in retrograde motion, causing us, as a nation, to collectively back up, rethink, and redo matters pertaining to our nation's financial security.

Mercury, too, has turned retrograde as it passes through the Twelfth House of the chart for the United States. The Twelfth House symbolizes what is hidden, what is going on behind the scenes, and, unfortunately, what is sometimes known as the house of self-undoing.

Mercury is retrograding in the sign of Libra, which represents what we value, so that its retrograde motion in this sign at this time—when our nation’s leaders are having to go back and rethink our nation's financial situation and are struggling to come to an agreement about how to protect what we value—also seems poetically apropos.

Mars, the planet that shows our drive and ambition—how we go after what we want—is also, fortuitously, transiting this Twelfth House, lending its energy and support to the nation's leaders' quest for the right path to follow. Mars also represents disputes, and we are certainly witnessing evidence of that amongst our leaders!

Using the Scorpio rising chart for the United States, we naturally want to know where the ruler of the chart—Pluto—is transiting.  Why, the Second House of resources, of course! Where else? And Jupiter, the enthusiast, is transiting in the sign of Capricorn (the government’s sign) through the Third House of communication and contracts.

Finally, the Moon in Scorpio is ready to pass out of the Twelfth House of what is hidden—along with Venus (representing what we value), and cross over the nation’s Ascendant  which symbolizes how we are perceived, and how we make new beginnings. This would seem to indicate that the so-called “Bailout Bill” is ready to pass out of the darkness into the light of day and realization.

Let us pray.
