My friends, I have a startling confession to make! Are you ready for this? Okay, here goes: along with my consuming passion for Astrology, the Tarot and the Book of Destiny Cards I have also recently become a digital scrapbooking addict. Yes, I’m afraid it’s all too true.  Heaven knows I didn’t intend to fall into this time-consuming pastime, but once you become a grandparent, you have no choice. It’s the law!

I want to extend my sincere thanks to those of you who helped me launch my fabulous new service--The Book of Destiny Reports--so successfully! For a change I thought I would share the upside of Retrograde Mercury periods with you.  You will remember that we get three of these every year. Mercury rules young people. So I'm going to use that image to describe the Sun/Mercury cycle. A new Sun/Mercury cycle begins every time Mercury turns retrograde and makes a conjunction with the Sun. This cycle climaxes when Mercury turns direct and a couple of months later again conjuncts the Sun.

To get a picture of how this cycle works, imagine the Sun moving along in its orbit, never deviating from its path. Pretend that the Sun is the parent, walking along with its child, Mercury. Usually Mercury sticks pretty close to the Sun. But Mercury is known for his playfulness. He’s young. Naturally, he wants to have fun; to sow his wild oats. Sometimes he decides to go off exploring on his own. So he starts running and gets ahead of the Sun. (This is when our thinking processes often get ahead of our sense of self and sometimes get us into trouble.)

After awhile, however, Mercury grows tired or bored with being on his own. He wants the comfort of feeling connected to his parent. So he slows down, and begins backing up. In other words he goes retrograde, waiting for the Sun to catch up with him. This conjunction, made while Mercury is retrograding, can be very useful to us. Remember, I told you last time that during Mercury retrograde periods we have an opportunity to rethink things, since Mercury rules our mental processes?

Well, at the time that the Sun catches up with Mercury, or conjuncts Mercury, we have an opportunity to begin whatever it is that we’ve been rethinking, or considering while our mind was way out in front of us. It’s a time for action. I know! I know! I’ve repeatedly said that we should not take action on a retrograde Mercury, but sometimes it’s all right. I’m sharing this information with you so you’ll know when to act.

Okay, so you’ve got this picture of the little kid holding his parent’s hand, right? (Mercury conjunct the Sun) Now imagine him letting go again, only this time he begins lagging behind. The Sun goes heedlessly on without him. Symbolically, your life’s purpose (the Sun) goes forward with what you decided to do when Mercury conjuncted the Sun.

Pretty soon, sure enough, Mercury has fallen so far behind that he begins to feel out of touch again. He wants some reassurance, or feedback from the parent—the Sun. So he begins running to catch up. This is what we Astrologers mean when we say Mercury has turned direct. Mercury is moving forward again instead of retrograding, or backing up. Technically, the retrograde period had ended.

But it’s my feeling that we humans usually don’t realize the results of whatever action we chose to undertake at that first conjunction of the Sun and Mercury, until about two months later, when Mercury finally catches up with the Sun again and conjuncts it for a second time. This is the culmination phase, the climax of our new undertaking. At this time we can weigh the results of whatever we began at the first conjunction. Our sense of self (the Sun) and our thinking processes (Mercury) are again in step. At least until the next retrograde Mercury!

Do you begin to have a sense of how powerful a tool this can be—understanding when these two conjunctions take place in the Sun\Mercury cycle? It helps us to know when to begin something important, and it gives us a timeframe in which to evaluate the results of our undertaking—a  veritable gift from the Universe.

So here are the pertinent dates for the Sun/Mercury conjunctions:

August 13th:       Mercury conjuncted the Sun at 21 Cancer 48
September 20th: Mercury conjuncts the Sun at 27 Virgo 35 Rx
November 5th:    Mercury conjuncts the Sun at 13 Scorpio 02

I apologize for not getting this information to you by August 13th; my brain was on vacation with my grandchildren! I hope you can recall what you began or were thinking of, or what was going on for you back on August 13th—the first Mercury/Sun conjunction in this current Mercury/Sun cycle. Whatever it was you were thinking about or actually doing, you can expect to know or reap the results of that decision in early November.

I don’t know about you but I’ve already begun to feel it….the slowing down of Mercury—the so-called “Winged Messenger”, who lately seems to be crawling  instead of flying!  Oh, you know the feeling, the nasty little glitches with your computer.  For example, my scanner mysteriously quit working the other day for no apparent reason. I had to reinstall the drivers half a dozen times to get it up and running again. Then my microwave oven started making screechy noises and wouldn’t work at all….but later that day it decided to work perfectly! Go figure!

Last week we switched to a new TV service provider and now (I'm embarrassed to reveal) I don't even know what to push to turn on the TV! I was mumbling to myself, "Gee, I wish I knew how to turn on the TV,"  when, overhearing me, my helpful 4-year-old granddaughter Erin piped up: "Why don't you just ask Dick? (Dick is my husband.) She raced to the head of the stairs and called down to him: "Grampa! Gramma needs your help!" So the TV got turned on, but then I couldn't figure out how to turn it off.  Hmm, perhaps my brain is going retrograde?

Oh, and my communications are all snarly, too, which is par for the course during Mercury retrograde periods, which begins when Mercury is in its shadow, as it is right now. Friends tell me their email isn’t working properly and no one is returning my phone calls either! Sheesh! The exasperating thing is, Mercury doesn’t actually go retrograde until September 6th, but he’s already begun practicing his nonsensical games.

So….if you would like to know exactly how this Mercury retrograde is going to affect you for virtually the entire month of September before going direct on September 29th, (and actually up until October 13th when it leaves its shadow) I will be happy to send you a personal report of his furtive whereabouts and nefarious meandering in your natal chart. I can't promise that your personal Mercury Retrograde Report will prevent his antics, but it will at least give you a heads up and a modicum of comfort since you'll understand exactly what he’s up to!

To order your personalized Mercury Retrograde Report (which I will write just for you), simply click on the icon below and email your birth data: Name, Date of Birth, Place of Birth, and Time of Birth (Correct birth time is essential for the accuracy of this report) and I will send you my personal analysis of what  you can expect to experience the next six weeks--all the way up through October 13th.  Better hurry, though!  Mercury is on his mark, preparing to move backwards, and pounce on you!
